PunchyStuff® – Easy, Beginner Punch Needle Kits
At PunchyStuff, I design beginner-friendly punch needle kits that make crafting fun, relaxing, and frustration-free. Each kit is handmade by me — Kelly, a real punch needle artist — using the right combination of fabric, yarn, and tools, plus clear step-by-step instructions.
Why? Because I’ve seen too many crafters struggle with big box store kits that don’t include the right supplies or guidance. I get messages every day from people who feel frustrated, ready to give up, or convinced punch needle is “too hard.” My mission is to change that.
With PunchyStuff, you’ll find:
Easy DIY craft kits designed for beginners
Relaxing, mindful projects you can finish in an evening
All-in-one kits — no guesswork or extra shopping needed
Personal support — I’m always happy to answer questions and help you succeed!
Quality materials I use myself (I’ve made hundreds of projects with the exact tools I sell)
From personalized pillows to seasonal coasters, every kit is created to help you discover the joy of punch needle and the calm, meditative process of crafting with your hands.
I started PunchyStuff because I want you to love punch needle as much as I do — and I make sure every kit gives you a smooth start and a satisfying finish.

PUNCH NEEDLE FAQ:
What is punch needle embroidery?
Punch needle embroidery is a stitching technique that uses a punch needle tool to create loops of yarn or embroidery thread through monk’s cloth, primitive linen, or weaver’s cloth to create a design, lettering, or pattern. It is an easy craft to learn and pick up quickly!
How does a punch needle yarn stay in the fabric?
Punch needle loops stay because they are being held by the fabric’s weave. Every time you punch, the needle is actually poking through the weave in the fabric. Once the needle is punched in, the yarn pushes through the weave. Then when the needled is pulled back, the weave moves back into place and a loop is created. The tension from the fabric moving back into place and the tension from the loops being closely packed together, keep your yarn in the fabric. That’s one of the reasons why if the weave is too loose, your yarn won’t stay in place.
Does punch needle embroidery use yarn or embroidery floss?
Both, actually! But you need two different tools and two different foundation fabrics. A larger needle and monk's cloth should be used for needle punching with yarn. A smaller, thinner needle and weaver’s cloth should be used for needle punching with embroidery floss. I have both in my shop. Just read the product description or message me for help if you’re still unsure!
What is the best fabric for punch needle?
Monk’s cloth with 12 holes per square inch is ideal for punch needle. You can also use primitive linen. Burlap can also work as a budget option.
What is the difference between punch needle and rug hooking?
The two techniques are compared as similar in that they create the same stitch, but in different ways with different tools. The punch needle pushes the yarn or thread through the holes in the fabric, while rug hooking hooks the yarn and PULLS it through the fabric.
